What is CompTIA N+?

Your CompTIA N+ certification validates your knowledge and skills as a networking professional. It is a vendor-neutral certification that recognizes a technician’s ability to describe the features and functions of networking components and to install, configure and troubleshoot basic networking hardware, protocols and services.

To start, you must have an understanding of the basic networking theory and methods used in order to use the tools and hardware available for networking technologies. Overview/Description

Welcome to Part 2 of the CompTIA Network+® (2009 Objectives) series of courses. In this second section of the course, you will focus on networking implementations using TCP/IP and local area connections. In order to fully understand the networking world and technologies used, and be able to successfully manage networks, you understand all types of networks. You will build on the basic knowledge learned in Part 1 of the series to focus on the different network implementations used today.

In this course you will identify and describe how data is addressed and delivered across the different types of network media and hardware in use in modern PC-based computer networks, as well as identify the major types of network implementation. Overview/Description

Welcome to Part 3 of the CompTIA Network+® (2009 Objectives) series. In this third course, you will continue to focus on network types and infrastructure, and start to look into remote connectivity, network security, and disaster recovery. There are many aspects of networking that you may be responsible for in the future. With the security risks and threats of today, it is more important than ever before to understand network security, as to manage remote users effectively, and to plan for possible disasters that may affect networking systems.

In this course you will identify and describe all the major networking technologies, systems, skills, and tools in use in modern PC-based computer networks, and learn information and skills that will be helpful as you prepare for the CompTIA Network+ certification examination, 2009 objectives (exam number N10-004).

CompTIA Network+® (2009 Objectives) (Part 4 of 4)

Overview/Description

Welcome to Part 4 of the CompTIA Network+® (2009 Objectives) series. The last part of the course will take you through the areas of networking that are crucial to managing a network effectively. You will review network data storage methods, network operating systems used, network management techniques, and all aspects of network troubleshooting. To be a good network technician, you must be able to plan and maintain all components of the network from the proper hardware and operating system, to applying the appropriate troubleshooting guidelines and general maintenance techniques.

In this course you will identify and describe the foundational networking theories, terminology, and technologies used in modern PC-based computer networks. You will also learn information and skills that will be helpful as you prepare for the CompTIA Network+ certification examination, 2009 objectives (exam number N10-004).

Course Duration

Recommended 10 months of study

Entrance Requirements

Although it is not a prerequisite, it is recommended that CompTIA Network+ candidates have at least nine months experience in network support or administration or adequate training, along with the CompTIA A+ certification.

  • Operating System Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, or Vista
  • Operating System Apple Mac OS X 10.4 (or higher)
  • Processor Pentium III 1 GHz (or better)
  • Processor Macintosh Intel-based or PowerPC G4 (or better)
  • RAM 512 MB (1 GB or more recommended)
  • Internet connection 256K (broadband recommended)
  • Adobe Flash Player 8 (current version recommended)
  • Adobe Reader 7 (or higher)

Assessment and Award

You will need to contact a Prometric Testing centre two weeks before you want to write your exams on telephone number 0800 991 120. The exam fees are not included in your College SA programme fees.

Once you have successfully completed the examinations, your Prometric Testing Centre will provide you with a report and CompTIA will issue you with a certification pack. Included in your certification pack is a credit card with the details of the exams that you have passed as well as the expiry date, which means you will have to update your exam every three years by enrolling on CompTIA’s continuing education program to keep your certification current.

Your N10-004 CompTIA Network+ exam proves your competency in managing, maintaining, troubleshooting, installing and configuring basic network infrastructure. The exam consists of 100 questions and the duration of the exam is 90 minutes.

Your passing score is 720 out of 900 which is 80%

You will write your CompTIA exams at one of the Prometric testing centres in your area.
